If Only

March 9, 2011
By

I sat at an empty table as you left me/alone/again
stranded in a broken noise of silence. The rain came
down against the silhouettes of the hour as the moment
danced still. There/alone/again I watched you walk
through the tunnel of fog and out of my life.

And there/alone/again
I dreamed the dream of you turning back and embracing my eyes again,
but I let your love escape through the chains of my heart
and there/alone/again in the lone moment of a lover’s depart,
I wished I would’ve heard the whisper of your love
sing my name and promise the passion you were ready to give me
                again.

If only we could recapture the fragrance of the stars
our vision once inhaled in unity
as magic purified our souls into lasting bond—oh how
lost in each other’s eyes we were once so fond
allowing the warmth of our hands to travel
to destinations of natural bliss as we embraced
              within each pleasurable kiss,

if only time didn’t drift us into an unrecognizable
shield of emotional destruction, I would’ve called your name
back to me as you left me/alone/again
gazing back through the memories that will always be
             us,
and hoping, just hoping there will be another
chance to find the music of commitment
and together again dance…if only.
